About
Editorial independence, our rating methodology, data standards, sourcing, and how we handle privacy and ethics.
Editorial independence
Insurancepick is a publisher, not a brokerage or an agency. We don't hold insurance licenses, we don't place coverage, and our writers don't earn commission on anything we cover. That separation is what lets us write plainly about clauses and trade-offs instead of steering readers toward a particular purchase.
If the site ever accepts sponsorship or affiliate arrangements in the future, they will be disclosed clearly on the relevant page and will never influence which guides get written or what a calculator returns.
Rating methodology
Our calculators use publicly documented, widely taught methods from personal finance and risk planning, adapted into a simple point-in-time tool. Here's the shape of that process.
Step 1
Choose a documented method
Each calculator starts from an established, named approach — income replacement, deductible-and-coinsurance modeling, or a weighted risk index — rather than an invented formula.
Step 2
State every assumption
Every result page lists the inputs used and the factors the model does not account for, in plain language, next to the number.
Step 3
Keep it recalculable
Results update live from your own inputs, so you can test different scenarios rather than trust a single static answer.
Step 4
Label it as illustrative
Nothing on the site returns a quote, an approval, or a guaranteed figure — every output is framed as a starting point for your own decision.
Data standards
Sourcing transparency
Definitions and general mechanics referenced in our guides (deductibles, coinsurance, underwriting, riders, and similar terms) reflect standard, widely used insurance and personal-finance concepts rather than any single company's product. Where a guide describes a specific rule, regulation, or number, we say so explicitly and encourage readers to confirm current details with their own policy documents or a licensed professional, since specifics change by state, plan, and insurer.
Privacy & ethics
Calculators run in your browser
The figures you enter into our tools are processed on your device and are not stored on our servers.
Contact details, used once
Information you send through the helpdesk form is used only to respond to your request.
No dark patterns
We don't design pages to pressure a purchase, disguise ads as editorial, or hide a "no thanks" option.
We're happy to explain any methodology decision in more detail.
